Error with react-router v6
1 min readDec 15, 2021
I ran into the same issue today and came up with the following solution based on this very helpful article by Andrew Luca
In PrivateRoute.js:
import React from 'react';
import { Navigate, Outlet } from 'react-router-dom';const PrivateRoute = () => {
const auth = null; // determine if authorized, from context or however you're doing it // If authorized, return an outlet that will render child elements
// If not, return element that will navigate to login page
return auth ? <Outlet /> : <Navigate to="/login" />;
}
In App.js (I’ve left in some other pages as examples):
import './App.css';
import React, {Fragment} from 'react';
import {BrowserRouter as Router, Route, Routes} from 'react-router-dom';
import Navbar from './components/layout/Navbar';
import Home from './components/pages/Home';
import Register from './components/auth/Register'
import Login from './components/auth/Login';
import PrivateRoute from './components/routing/PrivateRoute';const App = () => {
return (
<Router>
<Fragment>
<Navbar/>
<Routes>
<Route exact path='/' element={<PrivateRoute/>}>
<Route exact path='/' element={<Home/>}/>
</Route>…
